September 21 - 25

This was our "official" first week of school. We have been doing lessons and work pages all summer and before we left we did a whole unit on Ancient Egypt. Now that we have a schedule things are going great and it's a lot of fun. There are still some bugs to work out in our schedule, and we are trying to see what is going to work and what is not

I am using the A2 curriculum and Math-U-See . James is doing really well, and speeding through the math. His reading is getting better and better, and is starting to read more fluidly, with out all the choppiness.

Tommy is working on his alphabet, and writing. He is doing well in math too, and is right behind James.
Tommy is very much a hands on learner, and does NOT like worksheets. So here is Tommy practicing his abc's with a dry erase marker on the sliding glass door.

For our Social Studies we studied maps this week. We talked about political and physical maps, direction, and the continents and oceans, north and south pole.
Here are pictures of out "county's" and the boys had to make one a political map {bridges, roads, stores.... anything man-made}. And the other is a physical map {mountains, rivers, lakes... anything that Heavenly Father made}

We had a great time making a globe and playing with play dough. Which by the way.... if you make your own play dough, you can add cinnamon to it {about 4-5 TABLEspoons} and then you get a great smell while you play with it.

For art, we talked about lines and what they look like. And warm and cool colors, and what they make you think of... Fire looks really funny if it's drawn in cool colors.

So this was our first week! It was a great one. As I get better at this all post more, this is just a start.
